Don't kill the messenger by Eileen Rendahl is the first book to Messenger series. This book is an paranormal romance, so to me it is really good, but I'll be honset with you, it has to be your kinda of book that you would read on your own, or you probably wont like it.
The book is about a woman, Melina Markowitz, who when she was a girl who had an accident that caused her to be able to talk and see supernaturals.
